Quinoa is often called the “Super Grain”. Although it is a seed and not a grain, quinoa is certainly a super food. Packed with fiber and protein, not only will it help build up muscle and keep your digestion efficient, it keeps you fuller for longer. Cooking quinoa is very similar to cooking rice. If you add twice as much water as dry quinoa in a sauce pan, for example, 1 cup of quinoa to 2 cups of water, and bring to a boil, you can then put a top on the sauce pan and turn the heat to low, simmering for about 15 minutes, or until all of the water is absorbed.
Take out a large platter and place paper towels on it, preferably 2 sheets thick. Turn the quinoa onto the platter and place more paper towels on top. The key is to dry the quinoa out as much as possible. Once water stops bleeding out through the paper towels, you can then preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the oven is preheated, place the quinoa on an un-greased baking sheet, making sure you spread out the quinoa as much as you can. Please the baking sheet on the middle rack, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. This will make the quinoa nice and crispy.
Once the quinoa is all dried out, break up any clumps that have formed due to moisture moving to a specific area. After the clumps are all out and the quinoa is fine, you can add seasonings if desired. Salt, pepper, dried herbs, and other spices are all common ingredients in bread crumbs. At this point, the quinoa can be used in any recipe in place of breadcrumbs in a 1 to 1 ratio. If the recipe asks for 1 cup breadcrumbs, then 1 cup quinoa will do more than fine.
